Worldwide action from transport workers committed to ending violence against women

In India hundreds of members of the MSTKS marched through the streets of Mumbai. In the UK Unite workers from across the transport sectors took the white ribbon pledge committing never to remain silent about violence against women. Union representatives from Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt showed solidarity with survivors of violence from the ITF Arab World seminar for civil aviation unions in North Africa.

And those are just a few examples. Visit the campaign page for more reports and pictures on 25 November actions.

Aruna Patil, a bus conductor who was among the women marching in Mumbai this week said: “The march we organised was designed to send a very clear message to the government of Maharashtra State: our demands over improvements in safety for women workers must be met or action from our side will escalate.

“Violence against women is ongoing, and it’s up to our union to say no we don’t accept it. We’ve used the opportunity of 25 November to launch our campaign in a public arena and we will continue to campaign every day of the year because violence against women bus conductors and passengers is currently an unacceptable part of daily life.”

The ITF and its affiliated unions are committed to ending violence against women, not just at work but in homes and communities across the globe as well. If you’re inspired to do more to campaign around violence against women in your union you can access resources and information.

If you took action to mark 25 November it’s not too late to share your own reports and pictures. Email to: women@itf.org.uk or tag @ITFglobal on Facebook or @ITFglobalunion on twitter #ITFwomen
