Transnational campaign conference pools global union expertise

ニュース

The Transnational campaigning (and network building) for decent work event gathered over 60 campaigners and communicators from global union federations and their affiliates, the ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation), NGOs such as LabourStart and SumOfUs, and the FES itself.

Together they pooled their experiences, identified best practice, and tackled topics including: strategic campaigning; building campaigns in supply chains across sectors; and improving and broadening global trade union campaigns.

Representatives of the ITF were invited to speak on two of the headline issues – strategic research and campaign communications, sharing the lessons learnt by the federation on intensive research and mapping, and on raising the conditions being faced by staff at Qatar Airways.

Mirko Herberg, coordinator of the FES global trade union programme, was one of the organisers of the event. He commented: ”The conference demonstrated that the global labor movement has been strategically and in many cases successfully applying modern campaign strategies to defend workers’ interests all over the world.”

He concluded: ”The exchanges showed that global unions have much to gain from closely cooperating with each other, not least when confronted with the challenge of attacks on labour rights worldwide, as well as engaging in cross-sector supply chain campaigns”
