The ITF launched its new Arab World regional conference site this week, representing a great opportunity for affiliates and activists alike to have their say in setting ITF global direction to 2018.
Key questions for the region are up for debate, and include topics like organising, strengthening the participation of young and women workers, andhuman and trade union rights in the region. The site also provides a platform for Arab World affiliates to contribute ideas on how to support union re-building in Gaza.
As well as being able to have their say, affiliates and activists will be able to download key conference documents, including the conference schedule, from the site.
It is hoped that this new regional website will build on the strong communications networks already used in the region. “Since we launched our Facebook page back in 2011, we have seen lots of online debate. This helps us to understand the day-to-day issues our affiliates and activists face.” said Bilal Malkawi, ITF Arab World regional secretary.
Malkawi continued: “Our youth network have a busy What’s App network. We know that communicating well can raise awareness, inspire action, and motivate affiliates. We also know that our region has some fantastic and strong communications networks. That’s why we want affiliates to get behind our regional conference website, and use their voices to help shape the future for transport unions in the Arab World.”
The ITF Africa and ITF America regional conference sites will launch later in the year.
