Often widowed by the war in Nepal, many women with children and other dependants have had to take up informal work in order to survive. The nature of this work means no social security, pension or insurance. Sita is a tempo driver in Kathmandu – like many working-class women she has little choice but to work upwards of 10 hours a day, often working when she is sick. For workers like these, every day is a struggle for survival.
