New partnership between Nigeria and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is a welcome boost for African aviation industry.

The partnership comes after Nigeria attained a 75.5% compliance score under the International Civil Aviation Organization Convention (ICAO)*.

Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, attended the ITF’s 46th Congress in Marrakech last week. At the closing ceremony, the ITF agreed to work with Nigeria on building a sustainable aviation industry in the country and the Africa region.

Speaking after his re-election as ITF General Secretary, Stephen Cotton said: “We congratulate Nigeria for attaining a 75.5% compliance score under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Convention. This gives Nigeria the platform to develop a regional aviation industry based on the principles of decent work, economic development, and environmental sustainability.

“We thank the Nigerian Government, and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in particular for his hard work in this regard, and we were honoured that he attended the ITF Congress.”

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, welcomed the new working relationship with the ITF. He said: “Nigeria is happy to participate in the ITF Congress in Marrakech and appreciates the contribution the ITF has made to developing all transport sectors, including aviation.

“We look forward to continued partnership between the ITF and the Nigerian government for the protection and welfare of the Nigerian transport workers.”
