North Sea oil strikers want your messages of support!

أخبار

The ITF has publicly backed those working for Wood Group on Shell’s North Sea oil and gas platforms and sent a message of support, and now it’s inviting unions to send theirs too.

In the ITF’s letter to the strikers, general secretary Steve Cotton said: “You have voted overwhelmingly to resist Wood Group’s plans, and justice is on your side. Offshore oil and gas are two of the keystones of the economy. As the people helping bringing it into use, you deserve a return for your work. We commend the stand you are taking, and promise that you aren’t taking it alone. The whole ITF is behind you and ready to support you.”

RMT general secretary Mick Cash explained that the strikers are solid and determined as they kick off a campaign of industrial action in response to a savage attack on pay and working conditions.

Unite regional organiser John Boland added that this is the first strike in the North Sea in a generation. He stated that the oil and gas sector is a global industry and the workers are encouraged and heartened by the growing level of support and solidarity shown by workers and unions across the sector and beyond, from as far away as Mexico, Norway, Germany and the United States.

Your messages of support are welcomed by the striking workers. Please send them to M.Carden@rmt.org.uk - and why not also share them here using the Post your comment button above?
