Sharing good practices on gender equality can have a ripple effect to inspire and motivate others. Each story, every success and every effort towards gender equality has the potential to motivate others to take action and make a difference.
There are a number of international standards that set out commitments related to employment and equality:

Women transport workers are a proud and critical part of the workforce keeping the world moving.
They work in a wide range of occupations and in some countries, increasing numbers of women are entering the transport industry for work, including in roles traditionally held by men
Qualifications, training and career opportunities
Equal access to training, re-training and reskilling opportunities for women of all ages is important as part of improving women’s access to the industry and different roles, to new jobs when transport infrastructure is introduced or upgraded or jobs
Recruitment strategies can make some impact, but it is also important to address workplace issues that discourage women from joining and remaining in the sector rather than simply focussing on fulfilling recruitment targets.

Even today, many jobs in transport are seen as ‘men’s work’ or ‘women’s work’. In some cases, the industry is viewed by some as no place for women. This systemic and often normalised bias excludes
Despite advances for gender equality in some countries and the existence of international standards to address discrimination and promote women’s rights, women around the world continue to experience multiple forms of discrimination; violence and sexual harassment; and restrictions on their rights.
