ITF and ITUC guarded welcome for Iran releases

news

This follows the release on 9 May of Osman Esmaili of the Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers' Organizations.

Razavi and Madadi were imprisoned earlier this month and their release from custody follows protests to the Iranian government by both organisations and a LabourStart campaign demanding their freedom, which more than 5,700 union activists have already supported.

The ITF and ITUC continue to campaign for the dismissal of the trumped-up charges made against the men for carrying out lawful trade union activities, as well as for the release of Mahmoud Salehi, another member of the Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers' Organizations, who is believed to still be in custody.

The ITF and ITUC have spearheaded a global campaign against the series of arrests, re-arrests and imprisonments in Iran’s continuing victimisation of union activists.
