That’s Harv Grewal of the ILWU in Canada after participating this week in a young dockers’ communications and campaigning workshop in Manila, Philippines. He was reporting back to the ITF Dockers’ Section Committee (DSC) also held in Manila this week.
Harv continued: “The dockers’ section is investing in young activists and as a result we know you want to hear our problems, develop us – you’ve shown you care and now we’re leaving inspired and empowered. You’re integrating youth and challenging us and we hope learning something from us too.”
Participants were involved from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Canada, Germany, Australia, Senegal, Colombia, Malaysia, UK, Turkey and Morocco.
As well as campaigns planning and social media, a session on live reporting and interviewing on union campaigns was part of the two-day training. Watch the results here.
The young dockers will now be part of the DSC drive to improve direct communications with dockers and build their awareness of, and involvement in, the global ITF family.
