Qatar guilty, says ILO

In a dramatic judgment today, the ILO (International Labour Organization) found Qatar guilty of allowing its state-owned airline, Qatar Airways (QR), to violate international and national agreements and institutionalise discrimination.

ITF and SRI chart a course on maritime human rights

The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) and Seafarers’ Rights International (SRI) report progress being made on the urgent issue of the criminalisation of seafarers. This follows the positive reception from the IMO’s (International Maritime Organization) Legal Committee to a paper co-sponsored by the ITF, the International Federation of Shipmasters' Associations (IFSMA), the Comité Maritime International (CMI) and InterManager.

Geneva-based United Nations agency the ILO (International Labour Organization) today found Qatar guilty of allowing its state-owned airline, Qatar Airways, to violate international and national agreements and institutionalise discrimination. The case was successfully brought against Qatar by the ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) and the ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation) (see http://goo.gl/Ka5inH.)

Peru's dockworkers win

Operations resumed in Callao, Peru’s largest port terminal on Friday, as operator APMT stepped “back from crisis" and signed a two year agreement delivering improved pay, health and union benefits for some 650 port workers. Members of the ITF-affiliated SUTRAMPORCPC union returned to work on 5 June following 24 days of strike action over fair pay and against anti-union discriminatory practices.

Qatar Airways Cup: global union spotlights aviation workers’ plight

The International Transport Workers’ Federation - a global union body representing millions of transport workers worldwide - is joining the Scottish Football Supporters Association and PlayFairQatar in calling on Scotland fans to support migrant workers who are building Qatar’s 2022 World Cup in advance of Scotland’s friendly with the Gulf state on June 5th.
